Summer Camping – all the gear no idea!

It’s currently early evening & I’m enjoying the peace & quite of the house, it’s a rare but lovely thing! Halfords recently kitted us out with every camping essential we could ever need & as camping novices Mr Meldrum & the girls are putting them to the test in the garden before we go hard core camping later in the summer! They’ve spent the afternoon building & playing in the tent, blowing up airbeds & organising their bed time stories – I’m not sure how much sleep any of them will get as excitement levels are certainly running high!

I’ve been scouring all things camping online starting with Halfords own ‘Staycation’ section on the Halfords website – here you can find everything from campsite guides, camping recipes to campsite playlists – so if you are camping newbies like us then this is definitely a good place to start out with absorbing some information!

The interactive Staycation map is such a great tool for campers new & old… you can search the map & find local areas & attractions, search by location, discover cycle routes, find out about activities in the surrounding area & plan your route.

Halfords have put together the ultimate camping essentials checklist, which I think is a really good place to start as other than a tent… I wouldn’t know where to start!!

The Camping Checklist of Essentials

  • Tent
  • Camping lights
  • Camping stove & gas
  • Coolbox
  • Cutlery
  • Washing up liquid & sponge
  • Toiletries
  • Boots/Wellies
  • Phone
  • Airbed & pump
  • Warm clothing
  • Folding table & chairs
  • Food & drink

  • Bing bags
  • Suncream
  • Rain macs
  • Map
  • Sleeping bags
  • Towels
  • Plates & cups
  • Water carrier

Now, that is one heck of a list & that is why a roof box was essential for our car & our every expanding family!!

According to many many different websites, articles & advice given by friends & Halfords staff in store here are some newbie camping tips!!

Top Newbie Camper tips!

So there we have it a little Meldrum camping special… from the comfort of my sofa, while the rest of the team are in the garden – it’s forecast rain in the next hour so we’ll see how the evening pans out!!!
