Good morning guys, I’m back today answering some of your questions… I get emailed a lot asking what equipment I use & top tips for starting a blog or youtube channel. I did used to answers these e-mails when I wasn’t receiving so many but I just don’t have the time anymore so I thought I would put ‘pen to paper’ & share what I use for vlogging.

It can be a little intimidating when starting out & knowing what equipment to buy, I for example bought 4 cameras before finding the one!

Some of the following links are affiliate links – that means I make a teeny tiny amount if you purchase – but please be assured that all items included below are things that I use daily to create my videos.

This little beauty is hands down the best camera I have ever owned I have a fancy DSLR but I much prefer using this & take much better pictures with it. It’s fantastic for vlogging as it has a flip screen, a great focus & it’s easy to adjust the brightness when vlogging in the shade or darker rooms of your home. I’m not going to get all technical because to be honest I have no clue – I’m a novice with a camera but this one makes me feel like a pro. Below is an example of some of the pictures I have taken using the G7X

So before I bought a tripod I used piles of books, shelves – whatever I could find that would make my camera the right height for filming – this isn’t ideal but it is do-able … and I would definitely recommend this for the beginner vlogger, a tripod does make your life a heck of a lot easier though – this one is very similar to the one I have pinched from my Dad & it’s a bargain too at only £17.

Again these are in no way necessary when starting out – but when you have deadlines to meet, dark Scottish winter nights & kids that decide not to nap during the day sometimes night time filming is essential. Natural day light is always always always the best kind of light but these are pretty darn good – don’t give you a ghostly glare & are currently really reasonable on Amazon at £60. Obviously these are not for vlogging out and about but are great for those sit down videos.

So before I had a Mac I was using my old Dell laptop with windows movie maker – this is do-able but oh my gosh it is tough work. A Mac is geared up towards editing, they come with iMovie which I love – it is a simple movie editing software & has loads music, titles, themes etc so you can fiddle & play around with your footage until your heart is content.

So there you have it – my list of vlogging equipment – but please remember you really don’t need all of that – many people film on their phones & if you are just starting out that is probably a good place to start – it’s all about the content you are creating not what you are using to create it!
